15 Years of CalSERVES Programs

CalSERVES is gearing up to celebrate our 15th Anniversary. That's a lot of AmeriCorps members who have served in our programs. We would love to hear your stories of service! In Celebration of a Fantastic CalSERVES Year!

On May 31, 2012, the CalSERVES staff and mentors gathered to celebrate the end of yet another fantastic CalSERVES year.

In the 2011-2012 School Year, 110 CalSERVES AmeriCorps members:

• Mentored 1,145 students in After School programs at 6 Elementary schools


• Tutored 382 students in reading


• Served (as of May 1, 2012) a total of 128,625 hours in the community!

The celebration included an appearance from Efren Carrillo, Sonoma County Supervisor and long-time champion of our programs. He told the AmeriCorps members of the tremendous impact they had in the lives of the children they served and pointed out that the kids who come for tutoring and after school "want to be like you".

Thank You for an AMAZING Year, AmeriCorps Mentors!

CalSERVES gathered yesterday to celebrate the graduation of the 10-11 class of AmeriCorps members. Members enjoyed games, end of the year videos, photo contests, and inspirational speakers.

Speakers for the event included Santa Rosa Mayor, Ernesto Olivares, Principal Elizabeth Sesma-Olinyk from Taylor Mountain Elementary School, and various members and volunteers with the CalSERVES program.

In the 2010-2011 school year, our 115 local AmeriCorps members provided over 144,000 hours of service to the children and families in our community.

They serve for many hours each day, giving of their time, energy, and love.

The children in our programs have received their attention and commitment.

Thank you for being role-models, and making a difference!

Another Great AmeriCorps Year

The time is running out for this year's group of AmeriCorps members. Together, they have given thousands of hours in service to the community - tutoring children, running after school programs, teaching nutrition, mentoring, enrichment, and the list goes on and on. They have Made a Difference!
